Private detectives Makar Ilyushin and Sergey Babkin, who specialize in finding missing people, are hired by Andrey Krasilshchikov, a true devotee who invested his entire fortune and soul into a dilapidated old mansion in the village of Kamyshovka and restored it with his own hands. After which Vera Bakshaeva, the sister of the former owner from whom Andrey bought the house, came to him and declared that the mansion actually belonged to her and threatened to take it away. The distraught Krasilshchikov, from whom they decided to take away the work of his life, in a state of affect attacked the woman and was sure that he had killed her. Later, having come to his senses, he went to the police to confess, but Bakshaeva was never found, either alive or dead. Andrey cannot live with such a stone on his heart and asks the detectives to find Vera, whom he killed. Makar and Sergey begin an investigation and soon realize that the residents of Kamyshovka are very unhappy with them. Which means they have something to hide.
